Train with BLINK Dance Theatre as a Workshop Facilitator

As part of our commitment to promoting diversity in arts leadership and breaking down barriers to the arts, BLINK Dance Theatre has allocated a portion of our grant from Paul Hamlyn Foundations’ Arts-based Learning Fund to support work in the memory of David Ogwe. This funding supports our new Workshop Facilitator Traineeship, supporting an emerging facilitator from the Global Majority through paid training, ongoing support, and a contribution to additional costs.

Role Outline

This is a part-time position in a varied and satisfying role for an emerging facilitator, who may have no or limited experience in the inclusive arts sector.

Over ten weeks in the Autumn and Spring Terms 2024/25, you will train with experienced BLINK artist-facilitators in a London specialist school, developing your confidence in inclusive, sensory facilitation practice. The specific focus will be on Learning Disability and supporting individuals labelled with complex needs and PMLD.

Person Specification

This role has been created to address the under-representation of creative facilitators from the Global Majority in the sensory arts sector. Therefore, this traineeship is specifically for those who identify as being from the Global Majority.

  • Calm, patient and resilient in unpredictable environments and in the face of challenges such as sudden loud noises, strong smells, intensified tics and stims, and occasional aggressive behaviours

  • Happy to use touch as a key creative tool in workshops

  • Able to commit to a year of freelance facilitation work with BLINK following a successful training placement, of at least one half-day (4 hours) per week during school terms

  • Identify as being from the Global Majority

Hours of Work and Rate of Pay

This is a freelance position for 9 hours weekly, every Wednesday during time term for ten weeks total. It is paid at a training rate of £15 per hour, equivalent to £135 a week, plus £15 per hour for any additional mutually agreed hours.
