BLINK Dance Theatre receive Eclipse Award for Edinburgh Run
We are excited to share that we are one of the recipients of the third annual Eclipse Award, presented by Eclipse Theatre Company and Summerhall. This award is supporting six new productions being performed at Summerhall during this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, including our show ELVIS DIED OF BURGERS.
For the first time the Eclipse Award will be going to multiple Black and Global Majority artists or companies, providing the recipients with a nurturing artistic community whilst performing in Edinburgh, opportunities to network, and over £50,000 worth of support. This year’s recipients are:
ELVIS DIED OF BURGERS from BLINK Dance Theatre
Kill the Cop Inside Your Head by Subira Joy
OommoO by Lula Mebrahtu
Siapa Yang Bawa Melayu Aku Pergi? (Who Took My Malay Away?) by Faizal Abdullah
waiting for a train at the bus stop by Mwansa Phiri
Weathervanes by Journey to East Productions, in association with Summerhall and Tramway
BLINK Dance Theatre are delighted to be a recipient of the Eclipse Award and part of Summerhall’s curated programme for the Fringe this year, as championing risk-taking, mature and experimental performance that we create as a company. Vicki said:
‘It has been a long term dream of ours to make it to the Fringe. But alongside many of our Disabled and Neurodivergent peers it is a hard dream to realise; due to our additional access costs and needs. We are thrilled to be able to represent our community on a world leading platform with the support of the Eclipse award and collaborative approach of Summerhall. This support comes at a time when the additional barrier of the cost of living crisis creates even more barriers to Black and global majority, Disabled and Neurodivergent and indeed ensemble companies such as ours and so we are especially grateful.’

The Eclipse Award, an initiative by Eclipse Theatre and Summerhall aims to help UK Black artists and fellow artists who are marginalised for their race, and who make boundary-pushing performance work, to undertake an Edinburgh Fringe run. Previous recipients are Rachael Young in 2019 and Initiative.dkf in 2020/21.
