60 seconds with Rachel
Carnivals, curry, unusual demands and big dreams.
Find out about what makes our newest director Rachel tick and her hopes for the future. Francis, Kat, Delson and Vicki caught up with newest BLINK Director Rachel...
D: Describe BLINK in 5 words
R: Fresh, exciting, eclectic, bright, exxxppaaannnnnndddiinnnngg
K: If you could do anything with BLINK, what would it be?
R: A world tour with a show which explores issues around sex, relationships and disability. Smashing through the stigmas and stereotypes!
F: What would you cook if you went on come dine with me?
R: I am awesome at making curries (so all my friends say!) so I would do lots of different ones and if we had any room left, vanilla ice cream with hot chocolate sauce....
Then I’d put on a disco and we’d all do karaoke to lots of Madonna and Mariah Carey until the sun came up.
V: What does it mean to you to be a BLINK Director?
R: SO much! I still can’t believe it. If I wasn’t a director, I would still want to make work with the BLINK team so it’s a pleasure for it to be an official thing! I am so excited for the future and what we can explore and achieve together. We all have such different interests and talents and I have learnt the true meaning of team work with them! As much as we are all about inclusion and equality, I do want a Big Co - Director Chair with a little kitten to stroke. I have been told its on its way…
When Rachel isn't working with BLINK she freelances as a dancer and choreographer. She's worked with Gaby Agis, Rosemary Lee, Janine Harrington, Florence Peake and others. She's travelled the world doing carnivals with Brouhaha International and is currently studying an MA at Goldsmiths University! Underlining her work in all contexts is the belief that dancing and theatre is political. In my spare time I like to go see shows and dance in fields!
